Holy Shit, I'm awesome

I've managed to get a scholarship for a one week travel to a symposium in Tokyo in March.
Flight and the stay at a dorm on the university ground is included. Oh my holy friggin' fucking God, I cannot believe it.
(Oh my God, it will be so awful because I have to speak Japanese and AHHHHH but anyways, I'll be in Japan, I can buy a Denshi-Jisho and just AHHHHHHH!!!!!)
(pinku almost bashed my head in because I was all like "Oh man, I didn't earn this, I'm sure I'm the only one who even applied for this so there was no competition and WAHHHHH!" But right now? I FEEL LIKE FUCK YOU I WON A BAFTA!!!!!)

Hey! Congratulations!!! I bet it will be insanely fun! And basically free, that is amazing. You clearly deserve it for being amazing and wonderful.

(re: denshi jisho - I highly recommend a DS and the Kanji Sonomama program - it's basically the same as the $300 dictionaries, it's a hella lot more durable, AND it's cheaper. My exchange program ended up deciding it was the best way to go - a friend of mine got a denshi jisho proper and it started spawning evil dark bloblets, so.)

Speaking Japanese in Japan is the bomb. As long as you're not good, everyone thinks you're the most adorable thing ever! You will have so much fun!

More congratulations! All the congratulations!

I love you, thank you so much ;______; because this here As long as you're not good, everyone thinks you're the most adorable thing ever! You will have so much fun! helped me to calm down a lot!!! (because the other guy that was chosen to go to Japan and participate in that symposium is an A+ student in Japanese so I feel like GRAH WHY ME and I sure as hell hope I do not have to socialise with him (because he has an a-hole character from what I've heard so far but oh well we'll see sorry for rambling I still feel friggin' light-headed! xD))

And thanks for the recommendation concerning the DS! I actually wanted to get one but my dad's colleague who studied Japanese and is fluent in it talked me into keeping an eye out for a Denshi Jisho so... xD Do you happen to know how "famous" this DS-game/program is in Japan? Would the clerk in the Akihabara store know what I want if I said to him: "DS to Kanji Sonomama program wo kaitain desu. Tetsudatte kuremasen ka?" (I'm sure this is wrong as hell in terms of grammar and polite speach and uh yeah xD but I hope you know what I mean? XD)

Ha, he will probably be side-eyed by all the people because he is CLEARLY a foreigner out to stay in the country and steal all the jobs meant for Japanese citizens! And you will be standing there going 'ano, shitsureidesukedo... *insert more words*' and they will be all 'awww, she is so cute and so brave, trying a foreign language, we should smile at her and give her discounts/candy.'

I... have no idea how famous it is in Japan, actually, but I remember a couple of my classmates asking for it, and they seemed to have no problem. Me, I just ordered mine. It arrived before I came to Japan, so that was easy. I'm pretty sure the clerk would know, although you might want to say "DSの感じそのままゲームがほしいです/買いたいんです。ありますか?”

Also, I hear you can actually play other games on DS thingies! :p Not that I've ever done so... but the potential is there! *promotes*

Q___Q

See what I mean? I have been studying this bloody language for two and a half years now and I can't even buy a damn video game without butchering the grammar (PARTICLES HOW I HATE THEE!). OH LORD. xDDD

But eh I'll stay optimus primeistic and I'm sure I will find my way around in Tokyo (I survived three weeks there already so...XD)

YOU CAN PLAY GAMES ON A DS? OH AND I THOUGHT MY BROTHER WAS REPEATING HIS ENGLISH VOCABULARY ALL YEAR LONG. XDDDDDD (Maybe I will get some games too. Zelda *__* Best way to practice a language that frustates you is to play a Japanese game that frustrates you too!)

Oh god, I've been studying it over four years and the grammar, fuck it. Particles are my enemy. I hate them and the endless little circles of red around them. EVIL. I mean, seriously, put the devil up against the Japanese language and he'd probably start crying.

...what does it say about us that we keep studying it anyway?

MAN YOUR BROTHER IS SO INCREDIBLY DILIGENT. SERIOUSLY IMPRESSIVE. XD

Yeeeeah, I just sort of totally suck at all games ever. I can strip mine planets on Mass Effect and am fairly decent at Diablo II but... navigation. Theoretically you can use the bloody controllers without walking into walls. But I am a point-and-click kinda girl.
