Yesterday I went to a movie-night with friends. We watched "Prince of Persia" which had shitty quality but was adorable nonetheless ( I still LOVE Tas more than Dastan, I mean, why would I want to become a princess when I could also marry the king? ;D) and then we decided to watch "Southland Tales".
Watch the misleading trailer
I am just not made for movies like this. It wants to be a satire or take a dark-comedy look at US film-industry but it... I don't know. It doesn't make sense at all, it is way too long (2 hours 15 minutes for fuck's sake I had classes that seemed more interesting than this film -.-) and if you want to play with mythology... do it, go ahead, but stay consistent because it just won't make sense otherwise.
Oh, and movie you have no idea how much I hated you for the Justin-Timberlake-music-video you had to put in the middle of the film.
Maybe I am just too stupid for films like this, maybe I don't get all the subtle allegories or the allusions to other movies. Just, a movie that is not making the least bit of sense on its own without a gigantic explanation immediately following is not a good movie. And seriously guys, dystopian characteristics are sooooo 1984. Big brother is watching us, yes, we know, thank you...
But it seems that this movie is generally either hated or loved by critics and viewers. xDDDD
After that pinku and I watched "Wanted" and even though this movie too has many flaws and inconsistencies I enjoyed it much more than Southland Tales. This might be because I love McAvoy to death xDD It's just... you can care about the characters in this film, even if they are just briefly introduced and clichéd and you know where to go from here and the fourth-wall-breaking is a nice touch and... well taste differs, doesn't it. <3
Anyway right now, I try to get my hands on two Rammstein-tickets (Warteschleife since two hours, but I won't give up hope =D) and enjoy my free-time. =D
