Oh show, what are you doing... *shakes head like a disappointed mother*
Of course I appreciate the angsting and the worries of one Danny Williams while his partner gets beaten up really bad in North Korea of all places at the mercy of his archenemie and his traitorous ex-collegue. It will spawn hundreds of hellufa hurt/comfort stories and I thank you for that.

But (as usual), this episode was mediocre to say the least insulting thing that comes to my mind:
Firstly, everything felt rushed and hastily put together as if the editors thought: "Oh shit, we just cannot throw everybody in the North Korean jungle without some kind of exposition... time for lazy ass writing and dialogue!"
Secondly and this is something that I've never complained about ever as long as I watched Hawaii Five-O: it was executed really badly in terms of basic television technique! The very first scene had all the means to be a real shocker and I especially always jump at everything remotely scary happening at the screen But those scenes had me yawn and dive into my dish washing exercise because that was more enjoyable and held more excitment!!
Also: the scenes in the jungle. That was no cop-show anymore that was some sort of soldier-action-flick. I like action flick, really, but that was just a tad too much and cliché and seriously for all we have seen of North Corean jungle this could have taken place in Bolivia or Chile of wherever there is jungle available.
But ooooooooh I forgot, then we couldn't have shown how incredibly eeeeeeviiiiil every North Korean is and how it opposes everything the good and righteous America stands for amirite? (Because that mirrors the relationship between Steve and Wo Fat because one is a proud honest citizen and the other one is obviously a communist... yeah right, Wo Fat the communistic underdog with his anti-capitalistic view on everything because he gained so much money through that... of course, show, of course. *facepalms herself to death*).
Seriously, show, is this really just because you are American that you have to make it so obviously bad and patriotic and "soldiers-are-good!!!11!!!"-like? Jeeez, guys, jeeez. If you wanna make a soldier-movie, go and call Sam Worthington! Especially this one scene in the helicopter where all seemed to be great buddies because that's totally how the Army works, totally, not leaving any trauma and as soon as we are back in the air everything is forgotten and those filthy Korean farmer pigs can die, America, fuck yeah! *is off burning something*
God, I am so angry about this. The whole ambush to get Steve out of the evil guys' hands was just... it felt so wrong to see Danny and Chin shooting those Korean guys as if this was "Modern Warfare 3" or something. >___>
Oh and don't even get me started on Chin, really. The marriage thing came out of nowhere and although it should have been something cute and cuddly it left a bitter taste in my mouth because it felt as rushed as everything else. Bah!
Okay, I should stop getting so worked up about this, after all this episode had great character interaction (apart from that superflous Lori-hug at the end because really, show, really? We are not going to like the whole Steve/Lori-business any more when you thrash our heads with a sledgehammer concerning this matter...)

Hadn't we agreed that we'd stop watching this show...? At least for a while...just to avoid this...agonizing? I, too, keep hoping that it improves again. But this Korea-thing-a-thon was a VERY BIG RACCOON up my rectum!

First of all, the f***ing DMZ in Korea isn't the size of your neighborhood frontyard lawn but a strip of NOTHING the width of the island of Manhattan TIMES THREE, so waltzing in by jeep is, like, impossible...

But then I am a fact-loving fan. Forgive me, TPTB. You create shows for simple consumption, not brain-engagement. Thanks again. *mope*

Well. Huh. I read some reviews over at some H50 community, and they were all pretty good, but now I'm glad I haven't actually watched the ep, as the ever-increasing soldier stuff is one of the main things that put me off Season Two. So thanks for the warning! I can't believe it was so actually so bad that it blotted out the Steve/Danny goodness ... no, wait, actually, I can. :(((

Funny story how I came to NOT watch the ep, I tried to download it on Tuesday, from a site I've used a million times before, and contracted a virus for my troubles. Had to pay 50 Euros to have it removed. :((( Now I think it was probably a sign from God that I should give this episode a pass ... ;)

I was really really unsure what to think about this episode at first because of course they tried to do something different with the soldier-jungle-thingie but for me that just wasn't done so well so I decided not to like this episode (as if that was a conscious decision xDD)... I'll just be happy about the angst-fics this will inspire. *lesigh*

I just reread my post and maybe I am overdramatizing again so you should watch it for yourself but hmm... if the soldier-stuff is especially offputting for you than you probably won't enjoy any of this stuff... =/
But oh well the h/c-fic is gonna be great, I swear. xDD

Btw, which community are you using? This episode especially makes me wonder what others think about it, so...

Okay, I just read all the comments and reviews and now I am even more confused and I really think that this episode's appeal lies strongly with the perception of military in the US and everywhere else on this planet: the scenes that got me all riled up weren't even mentioned by other viewers or they said that those scenes reminded them of documentaries about the Vietnam war and stuff.
I am confident about my opinion on this episode but I am very confused as to how differently things get percepted by different people...
*goes off to BBC's Merlin*
(btw: are there any livestreams you could recommend? =D)

Yay, I found a shiny new lifestream last week - here it is:
http://www.filmon.com/tv/htmlmain/#BBC-1 (just one more day now till Lancelot is back, squee! :D)

I've noticed this before, this wholly different perception of all things military in the U.S. contrary to Europe/Germany. It always bothers me when I come across it. :(((
